You Said Forever, But Meant Until It Was Inconvenient

You said forever — lips dripping with honey,
Pressed it to my ear like a secret worth money.
But forever, darling, in your dictionary’s thin —
It stops when the weather shifts, or when I won’t just give in.

You said forever — but forever’s just a word,
Pretty in a caption, easy to be blurred.
You liked how it tasted when you rolled it off your tongue,
You liked how I believed you — how my stupid heart was strung.

You said forever — but you meant until it stung,
Until my needs got heavy and your excuses got young.
Until my love got messy, until your mask got cracked,
Until my loyalty asked you for a little bit back.

See, forever’s real easy when it’s late nights and skin,
When my laughter’s your soundtrack and you always get to win.
But forever got harder when I spoke up for me,
When I stopped saying sorry for your lack of loyalty.

You said forever — but you meant until it hurt,
Until real life showed up, until you’d have to do the work.
You meant until my sparkle dulled, until my fire caught flame,
Until I grew tired of being the only one to blame.

So here’s my forever: I’m done with your conditions,
I’m done dancing circles for your half-assed decisions.
I’m done writing endings for a story stuck on repeat,
I’m done making room for you — now my heart’s got new seats.

You said forever — but you meant when it was fun,
When I was soft and silent and you always felt you’d won.
But hun, here’s the twist you never thought I’d write:
Forever’s in my mirror now — I’m my own damn knight.

So I’ll sip my coffee black, text my friends at 2AM,
I’ll heal in messy phases, I’ll fall in love again.
But next time when they whisper forever in my ear,
I’ll smile — but I’ll stay ready if their ‘forever’ disappears.

You said forever — but I say never again.
My love is still forever, but forever’s mine to spend.
